  • Two 9 note kalimbas mounted together onto one block
  • The Twin is 30cm (12”) long and is fitted with two identically tuned sets of tines so the instrument can be played by either one or two persons simultaneously.
  • Resonance of the tones is picked up by the wooden corpus and can be felt by both players
  • Interactive instruments for two persons
  • The advanced kalimba player can play a wide range of other scales simply by retuning individual tone
  • tuned to A-minor

Playing Solo

Hold the Twin in both hands so that each thumb can reach one of set of tines. Now you can play the nine tones on both sides of the instrument, creating a full sound reach in overtones thanks to the identical tuning on both sides. When one tine is plucked it resonates with its twin on the other side.

For the advanced kalimba player the Twin offers the potential of a wider range of scales by simply retuning individual tines.

Playing Duo

The driving motive for designing the Twin was our desire to create an instrument which could offer a shared experience of sound between therapist and patient, couples, family members, and friends.

As the wooden body resonates, it is physically felt by both partners, and the identical tuning of the two sets of tines guarantees harmonious tone sequences and sounds.

The kalimba stays in tune when being played but the tuning can be changed if desired. Tones on the two sides of the instrument which differ from but nevertheless harmonize with each other are thus also possible.

Add a Bag to protect your instrument:

    • Bag reinforced with fiberglass
    • Fully padded on the inside
    • Adjustable shoulder-strap
    • Protect your sensual perfectly
    • Lightweight and durable

Dual Kalimbas changed my performances!

This instrument is special. Not only is it an instrument that produces gorgeous tones and sounds but it is designed to be played by two people simultaneously! At my concerts, I pass out 10 of these (so 20 people can play together). I use it as a tool to help people connect and be a part of the concert. It brings the whole room to a standstill where all of a sudden, these strangers are all unified and playing music together! I explain how there are no "right or wrong" notes, just "let your fingers dance on the tines.' People see that this little instrument is simple to play and effortless in it's ability to make any player sound great on it! The hardest part is getting them to hand them over once the song is over!

The dual kalimba is an excellent tool for people to connect. I have used it for team building workshops, adult mindfulness activities and therapy as well. Everyone who touches one is instantly enamored by them and the sounds they produce. People are always amazed at how easy it is to play and how they didn't think they'd be able to sound so good! I use them in my preschool classroom to teach kids musical confidence by putting real instruments in their hands and allowing them to experience musical success so early on as to plant those seeds. Music is a mind state and playing a dual kalimba with a friend, child, spouse, coworker, stranger or family member might be just the thing you need in your life. Having this analog tool changed my world! Love it!!
